Deck Contractor in San Diego

Ipe upper deck w/ Ipe & Redwood Handrails
San Diego is a great place to enjoy the outdoors.   These days people are enjoying their outdoor living space.   Often times a new deck is one of the first things people imagine for their backyard.    Although it can become confusing.  There are so many different options with composites, hardwoods, softwoods, etc.    In this particular project for a home renovation in La Jolla, CA we used a mix of redwood and Ipe' for the new deck, stairs and handrails we installed. Many people like the look and feel of natural wood.   Ipe' which we use on handrail cap and stairr treads, although more expensive lasts much longer and is much denser than other woods such as redwood. It is known for its durability.

It is important when having a Deck built in San Diego you use pressure treated lumber for all the substructure and always treat the lumber anytime you make a cut. This will pereserve the lumber and keep out termites.    The most common problems I have noticed with decks is poor design, and poor craftsmanship. For instance not pre-drilling holes or screws.  If you don't pre-drill you can cause splitting or a mushrooming effect with composite.  It is a sign of a novice. Also many beginners don't allow enough gap between decking boards.  You need about 1/8" gap to allow water to drain and proper air flow and allow for expansion with changes of weather.  Finding a good deck contractor can be a daunting task, especially finding a company that does high quality work at a fair price.   Call around get bids, but don't go with the lowest price.  Often times it is a sign of poor craftsmanship.   If you are in the San Diego Area and looking for the best deck contractor contact  PacifiCoastal Design for a free consultation @ http://www.PacifiCoastalDesign.com
